No certificate or coverage verification

COI Workbench does not issue, amend, validate, authenticate, or verify a certificate of insurance. It does not confirm that a policy is active, that a person or entity is insured, or that coverage will apply to an event. Only appropriate insurers, agents, brokers, regulators, and other authorized parties can provide confirmations within their authority.

Policy and endorsements control

A certificate generally summarizes selected information. The underlying policy, executed endorsements, applicable law, and specific facts control coverage. A name, checked box, or statement on a certificate should not be treated as creating rights that the policy does not provide.

No contract interpretation

Tools may help organize written requirements, but they do not determine whether a contractual insurance clause is enforceable, commercially available, sufficient, or satisfied. Contract interpretation should be handled by a qualified legal professional.

No guarantee of acceptance

A low administrative-risk result does not mean that a client, general contractor, property manager, lender, government agency, platform, or other reviewer will accept a certificate. Review processes and project requirements vary.
